Its the 'must wear whites' that puts me off , totally Edit - this thread may seem a bit odd at first, but it's a selection of posts from another thread as it was going off topic.

Its the 'must wear whites' that puts me off , totally Not the most flattering unless you've got the figure for it but then the handlers do look incredibly smart!

Whites are fine for futurity , cos that how they do it overseas(and we must copy them mustnt we?.....dont they still brand, eat horses, crop dogs ears and dock still? and we dont copy that do we ?) smart, tidy, workmanlike but not white - unless its optional ? - I thought it was all about the horses. Must wear whites is dictorial - not good - still it gives the organisors power to feel important. Time to think outside the box maybe and lead from the front.

Are we still going on about the whites! Its like a broken record now. Maybe an indication of just how much people HATE them though!! I have never understood why we have to follow the continent like lemmings .... as has been said, neat and tidy would be/should be good enough and I don't agree that everyone looks smart ... most look a mess with any old cheap ghastly clothes provided they fit the 'white' description. Why can the SSH not be brave and innovative and say that handlers should dress in navy? or maybe green? much more practical and less distracting from the horse which after all is what people SHOULD be looking at

We've discussed this at committee and think that the whites look very smart and sporty. We are showing sports horses - not hunters etc. and it makes the sports horses stand out from the hunter and light horse classes. Also... you should be able to run better in trainers Don't people who show Highlands have to wear tweed at Blair? Clydesdale handlers wear white coats and show in rope halters etc etc. I've asked Vanish for sponsorship for next year...

Are we still going on about the whites! Its like a broken record now. If its like a broken record, then the answer is to change it , time to move on stop the dictatorship and powertrips and lets show horses not restrict the classes with stupid pointless rules for handlers.

Get out of the stone age and set the pace be a leader not a follower and for goodness sake stop trying to justify the most stupid of rules .

Don't people who show Highlands have to wear tweed at Blair? No, they don't. There is usually a statement that says something about handlers being requested to dress appropriately, which usually means tartan of some sort, but it's not mandatory.

If you feel that strongly about white tweeds then why do you wear them?

If you feel that strongly about white tweeds then why do you wear them? I have to say jessie, there are a lot of people who dont do SSH competitions for just that reason ... anyhow, I fear we are going way off-topic from the Loose Jumping, but anyone is free to start a new thread if they wish to debate teh wrongs/rights/opinions/options on various societiy's turnout rules and regs

If you feel that strongly about white tweeds then why do you wear them? cos, I'm pressganged into showing the daughters 'osses and she isnt one to ruffle feathers, so I comply and smile sweetly. But, dont come the clever guy with me, I'm far too long in the tooth to be backed into a corner - are you perhaps associated with the ssh ?

I know how much the White glove dressage rule irritated me coz the gloves rarely stayed white passed two seconds. So can empathise white plus horses is not the best idea but i'm a muck magnet

Have to say, most societies have recommendations for what to wear, not must haves!! I myself have been put off showing in these classes, because I show in other classes, it would mean a change of outfit and the expense of buying more show clothes!!
