Our judges are friendly and happy to give guidance as well. Lunch vouchers for all volunteers. lyric211@btinternet.com I have no doubt the judges were friendly, but the standard of some of their judging was simply incompetent , in all my years as a judge I have never witnessed in public some of the shams I saw over saturday and sunday, admitted it was all unaffiliated, but c'mon guys.............................................I even witnessed a judge put up as champion a pony that was third in its class over all the first and second prizewinners she had previously judged, the animal being ineligible to even be in the championship, now thats bad!!!, plus embarrassing for the owner, who did raise this with her, only be told later, once the issue had been raised that the judges decision is final - what!!!!! , and that was only one incident on saturday, sunday was no better , great location though. Next year a new name perhaps - grand sham ;D

Just to add I wasnt showing , just watching, that was enough . Great location, immaculate , couldnt fault the cleaners who spent all day sweeping up keeping the place tidy , shame the show - or lets say some of the judges , werent to the same standard. Gives a bad impression to the general public.

I think, bearing in mind that I only really followed the M and Ms that you got the in hand judge spot on. Could really follow his judging but heard alot of complaints about the ridden M and M judge and having watched, cant really disagree. I think that as the M and Ms classes are huge and are a big part of the show, the judges have to be spot on. Not sure why the in hand judge wasnt asked to do the ridden also? Quite disappointed to hear some of the m and m people say they wont be back at the show as its a great show and I for one, would like it to continue but we got bumped last year with our judge too.

Are you sure one that was 3rd went champion? How can that be possible as it shouldn't have even been in the ring. Was it maybe 3rd in 1 class and 1st in another class in the same section?
I was stewarding today at Grand Slam not judging, but I could see what the judges were looking for even if their tastes didn't always exactly match mine. From outside the ring you may think the result is strange but you haven't seen what the judge has seen - and you would hardly want the judge to announce why - e.g. "I dropped that 4 places because it has puffy hocks, a curb, etc. etc. "

Things definately look diffrent when in the centre of the arena than on the outside. I found that out this evening when I was drafted in as a last minute Judge.

Agree with mac, for example I won my class and owner got 4th on same horse so Id have been taking her into EP even though she had a 4th in a class too if that makes sense?
As I say, Im happy anyway lol
Did you have fun Essendy?

It was very ineresting as the Supreme is done on a marking system. 4 Judges, no confering, so no one knew who was going to be Suprem or reserve. Had to borrow furrynumnah's clothes as I came in jeans and was looking a tad too casual.

Supreme was SHP lead rein was Emma Outram on Breuhelog Charmer (Sorry just guessing at the spelling). Emma is cute as pie. She was so sweet this morning when she won her first ever sash. ;D

Think we are in the wrong thread this should be the results thread! Anyway, for future reference for any potential stewards - they do know how to look after you at GS. The home made cakes were amazing. (Thanks MaG!) and a really nice lunch (not just a voucher for the burger van!)

She was even cuter in the Supreme , and gave a big smile as she past each Judge. Pony was a saint as mum fell in her lap of honor, pony kept going then realised no handler and then came to a slow halt. Emma was still busy with her up downs.
