One of my pet hates is that plastic number string stuff, that you are provided with at shows For a pound or so you can buy a meter of elastic, from www.designerbrowbands.co.uk/productdisplay.asp?CategoryID=29 and others! You can buy the colour to match your jacket, ie. brown elastic for brown jacket, green for green Cut to size, then tie loops at each end to hook onto jacket buttons, so the elastic can be re-used ;D Alternatively, you can use plaiting thread! Much neater than that horrid string ;D So ditch that plastic string stuff now ;D

I bought elastic a while ago but have never actually gotten around to doing anything with it. Thanks for that Lav you have given me that little push needed to get it used!

Yeah I'm going to get some elastic too - it's really hard putting the thread through the holes when it's windy!!

I have to say unless it's changed lately, the green is a horrendous bright colour. I use the brown stuff on my dark green jacket and it's fine

I bought a metre of ribbon from John Lewis, for about 40p, in navy blue and it looks very smart with my jacket.
Think its just a bit different!

I'm a fan of elastic and tend not to lose it or get it tied in knots like thread

I've used a piece of brown ribbon for years - I tie a bow & then tuck the ends through the appropriate button hole on my jacket so all the messy bits are hidden. I must admit I did have it one hole too high at Blair by mistake - it looked dreadful when I saw the photos.

I got some wee clips from Robinsons mail order for £1 a pair-they've got wee safety pins attached so you can pin your number to your jacket & it doesnt slide round your side etc.You can make sure its level before you put your jacket on too. Only downside is if you get rozzies where you can hook them!!!
