Is anyone else having bother with coat regrowth? I clipped Nadem out at the beginning on December and his coat has still not come back in! I know the weather has been mega Mild, but was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks! I know it's probably just a case of waiting now :-P

Marco was also clipped in Dec and has little regrowth- also what he has left has hardly been casting until today.
Spangle has not been clipped at all and has a nice coat but also has not been casting much.
Usually Marco will cast quite early but ot takes some time to all disappear- but usually he would have regrown more coat than he has. Its started changing this week though as he is turning blacker again in places.
No idea how to speed it it- I am happy I haven't had to reclip yet- been handy for me!

Horse at my yard was clipped back in October and has very little re-growth as well. Must be something to do with the odd winter weather we have had. None of mine (unclipped) were anywhere near as hairy this winter as they were last year.

My lot all grow their coats back at different speeds following clipping - Aaron is a nightmare! He looks fab after his first clip, but after his second he goes that horribly dull dark grey colour (he's black) and then it takes AGES to grow back in....I tried giving him his second clip much earlier than normal (October) but it's not made any difference to his coat. I have two others who were clipped after him and you can't tell they were clipped at all now.

This is why I don't clip at all in the winter, but then mines get chucked out on the hill to grow a full winter coat, they get a much better summer coat in!! Mines are all casting nicely just now!!!
Be careful about leaving the rugs off a clipped horse, as if they are cold, they can grow those long cat hairs to keep warm!

Seems to be the general concencus that thsi year a lot of horses are in the same boat. There is no way on earth i would manage not to clip Lenny as he gets quite hairy and i wouldnt be able to ride

Would be interesting to hear if everyone has not rugged up so much with the weather being so mild for the time of year

up until a week or so ago Len was wearing a heavy outdoor with neck and a heavy stable with neck My un-clipped hairy Welsh ponies are wearing HW rugs and hoods at the moment, to get their coats shifting And Rose, who decided it was the North Pole up here grew a mammoth coat and is still wearing two heavy rugs to get her coat going and she isn't clipped either!

Aren't they all majorly sweating Lav? Flare is sweating in his stable and this is unrugged with a fairly rubbish (unclipped) winter coat?

My grey horse snip was clipped in jan and is currently in a medium weight half neck. He was sweaty in the heavy one last week. His coat is not too bad. The bay, coisty, is the same I cliped the welshies neck as he was itchy its growing back in well and his body is casting.
I think feeding them oil and vit D helps and iv herd jelly is good too
