I usually dont clip mine - well except the "grey" creature lol But Nadem has been wrapped up and was still a furball.....need to invest in a thicker duvet cover lol xD The light thing seems to be helping as his coat is a little better K xx

TBH to get Gus's coat shifting - he had a little chaser clip - i take all his rugs OFF! Its the only thing that works for him, i've tried rugging him more heavily but it makes him hold onto his coat more Anyway hes nekkid during the day when the weather is fine and in a MW neck-less rug in the stable and when its cooler/wet during the day (over winter he has a full neck rug on all the time) Its working! Slowly

Wise move Kath - cover it - no light, coat is held longer. Expose to light(natual light, not artificial) - coat comes out. Simples. Smooth sleek Gus ;D

Maybe M&Ms are different to Arabs though? Different background/survival techniques? It is a medically proven fact that it is daylight hours which affects casting rather than heat so maybe yours are weird

The light, whether natural or high wattage bulb, is absorbed through the eye and affects the pituatary (if my biology memory is serving me right), so rugging wont affect the light effect .... unless your horse is also wearing a wide-brimmed hat or a pair of sunglasses Some horses just hang on to coats longer than others ... and not much alters their pattern, they wil lose it when they are ready. However, I think that heavy rugging and high wattage bulb (I think it needs to be 150W or higher, or one of the 'daylight' bulbs) are the only things that will work faster than nature intended.

Explained so much better than I could!!! Kath, your Arab will be thinner skinned than my hairy cobs Although the show ponies are hanging on to their coats too, I'm not surprised up on their hill can get quite cold!! The only ones with near summer coats in are a couple of the stallions, they like to get it done nice and early so they look good for their girls So theirs the solution, leave them entire

do you think it's too late to clip? The coat has only started to come out, I've swapped to a MW rug from her HW.

Mine is getting his coat back in nicely (last clip 13th December) , and casting his legs out nicely too. Although I think he's a wee bit confused with his coat as he has his winter dapples, he has very light brown dappled in summer but they are quite obvious just now like they are in winter It's ok though, rug is off and he is out in the sunshine...maybe he'll realise that it's his summer coat he is supposed to have
