hi puddledub and jenwalsh, I'm in leven the quote i got was £218 for a 3.5 lorry, i assumed it was so expensive because it was a royal highland day and a case of paying a premium for the lorry for that day, thanks for the number i will try to contact them tomorrow or Monday fingers crossed.

Sorry, if i sound stupid here, but i think your quote is actually quite reasonable. I can't quite remember what i was for hiring a horsebox van for the highland show, but i had to cancel and had a stonker of a cancelation fee along with everything else. When i hire a jeep to go places i am £85 per day plus fuel. So in reality if you are going to a show you can't pick up a vehicle the same day, you have to do it the day before and return it the day after which means an extra days hire. So for example, i went to Keith show which is about an hour and a half's drive towing from where i live. I was £170 hire for the jeep, had my own trailer, then had the fuel to replace, plus entry fee's and getting ready for a show no where near the same prestige as the highland. At the end of the day you still have to contribute towards the insurance which is sky high, parts, maintainence, taxes and everything else, it's not a simple as driving your own vehicle. If you don't want to fork out the costs of hire i would consider sharing with someone and contributing to fuel costs because in fairness i doubt that you will get anything much cheaper, apart from perhaps trailer hire. It's always a rubbish situation when you don't have your own transport, i know in the past i have hated it and i still hate it when my OH or his parents are away or racing, hope you get something

I was assuming that as yoyo had put the post on here that she was looking for a lift. I am going to the show on the Friday, but as I am only 10 minutes from the Firth Bridge I am a good 30 to 40 the wrong side of you, if I had been passing your way I would have been delighted to give you and your mare a lift but as I want to be at the gates of the showground by 6 to 6.30am I wouldn't manage. Hopefully you will get a lift from someone who is coming from your way. Do the folk from Leven who breed A's (Rushiefauld is it?) not do the Highland?

I assumed from the original post and the following replies that she was looking to hire something, having recieved quotes and looking for other hire places to call and get quotes, obviously my mistake, sorry
