Ive not ridden since october as i got married in december and ridding was the last thing on my mind. I just wondered who turns their horses away over the winter months or if you have them show fit already?

I can't blame the weather, or the time of the year, as I have probably only sat on a horse half a dozen times in the last 3 or 4 years

fred is ridden every so often when I have time, enya had a few weeks off in sept-oct then back into work but she is stop start just now as I am so busy with work and other stuff so I have decided not to force myself to ride at the end of the day she is a baby and needs some time to mature anyway and its winter and I don't do winter well!

Joker has had Nov/Dec/Jan off - he is now shod, clipped, inoculated, teeth done ( that in itself will be a whole new thread!) and riding may resume this weekend - as long as no galeforce winds/rain.

Gus had a break end of October to the beginning of December. He then got worked at weekends (hacking) and a couple of times in the school in hand work over poles/tarpaulin - this was in car headlights as i don't have lights! I had Xmas and New Year off so he got hacked a bit more then, and we bought a single floodlight (450kW so not very strong) which gives me a 25m area of light, so i'm now riding most nights in the school and hacking at weekends. I ride in any weather unless it is gales and sleet (like it was on Sunday) or snow, as it would be too dangerous. Rain doesnt bother me too much - it bothers Gus but its good training

I have one still going which is unusual for me at this time of year as we are usually up to our knees in snow, so Im enjoying the rain!!! We are only hacking as with no sand school the fields are too wet to ride on. I must admit tho when its gale force winds and rain we do have a day off.Fingers xd we can keep going to get some of the early Spring shows.

I have a school but it's far too wet to ride in at the moment as I don't want to ruin the surface (rubber on top of sand). However, since the beginning of the year, every day I've had time to ride, it has either been too wet or just too cold anyway! I've sat on each of my ponies just once during the whole of January - I had a lovely hack on Roddie last Saturday, before the weather turned nasty again. The snow has come on as I've been typing this.

I have show horses, there are no shows in the winter thus I don't ride them - that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!
GrayMo hasn't been ridden since Blair and the shetlands before that lol! No need! Plus I ride between 3 & 6 horses every day at work so so I don't feel the need to ride my own when the weather is vile!

Luckily we are blessed with an indoor school at my yard so I have been getting in about 3 nights a weeks worth of riding. First winter I've experienced having the indoor and would honestly be lost without!
