As some of you know, my cat Jade was rushed to the Bush last night and is suffering from suspected organophosphate poisoning.
She came in as normal around 8.30pm but was behaving very oddly, acting as though she had maybe been in a fight or had been chased, but her tail was right up over her back. i had seen her at around 6.30pm and she was totally fine.
She started walking strangely about 30 mins later and within an hour was wobbling all over the place and going downhill very fast. I took her straight to the vet after phoning them and she was seen straight away. She had deteriorated quite significantly by then and couldn't stand, her muscles were all twitching and she was getting ready to fit.
Thankfully she made it through the night but it wasn't looking too good for quite a while. It was quite distressing and needless to say I didn't sleep much last night. She had no idea who I was and was totally out of it. They rang me at 1.30am to ask permission to put her under a GA to clear her stomach contents and tube some activated charcoal in. I said yes immediately. I've been wrung out with it. She means everything to me and I couldn't stand to lose her. I've had her since she was 5 weeks old and she's nearly 12.
If she continues to improve she should hopefully be coming home tomorrow and so I shall be spending the rest of the weekend giving her some TLC.
She's definitely lost one of her 9 lives. I just hope there's no lasting damage to her liver and / or kidneys and that she is able to make a full recovery. I really thought I had lost her and have been distraught. Fortunately she is otherwise a very fit and healthy cat.
