It appears my dream for getting a pony qualified for Olympia is over. BSPS has won the slot from NPS (doesn't appear clear whether this will still be for M&Ms or not). I've always avoided BSPS due to the additional expense of registering ponies - I feel that my ponies are already registered with their appropriate breed societies so I shouldn't need to pay an annual fee to register them again. Ah well, hopefully NPS will introduce a new competition that will surpass what was IMO the highlight of the M&M calendar.

Did have a conversation with somebody not that along ago and was told that NPS had lost Olympia and BSPS had got it. What happens next for NPS?

I think they will launch a new competition next year but are working on the finer details.

I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing, from what I've seen, Olympia classes have been down on entries the past few years, whereas HOYS classes are packed full (I know BSPS don't hold these!) and the Heritage Classes are well filled at shows and at the Champs I believe BSPS is one of the more reasonable societies to join too!

I also think that both Societies need to revamp their Judges List its the same names for years apart from a couple new one this year.

Sorry to here that - as Kermie said you really cannot join EVERY Society - it costs a fortune. Judges are a major headache - I feel BSPS judges are used continually here in Scotland - you see the same names coming up nearly every week in a schedule- then when you go further afield it costs the show much more - lose lose on all occasions

Ah! That must the horse world then! It's the only one I would have to pay for registering ponies - the others just require me to join so much cheaper

I am gutted to hear this. Olympia has always been "the" show to qualify for I guess because so few can actually get there - 19? total compared to over 100 M&Ms at HOYS To me BSPS is and should be a society for children. I think they should stick to M&Ms for juniors only and leave NPS to do their stuff in representing and furthering all our native breeds in close collaboration with the individual breed societies.

I think the reason the numbers in qualifiers has gone down is the price of entering these classes and the fact that there are so many other classes to choose from these days if you know your pony doesn't really have much of a chance of qualifying.

It is really sad this has gone! Unfortunatly I think they were just outbid! Very sad but it is getting very expensive to attend with the £400 levy for the lorries. The end of an era! I hope NPS really look into what they are for and manage to get a new competition up and running. Also perhaps they need to look at their whole aim ie At the NPS Scotland anniverary lunch last week Dougal Dick in his speech mentioned the fact thet NPS no longer train but are very much show orientated. Perhaps this could be brought back so there are training courses again for producing ponies, different breeds and training prospective judges and stewards. Perhaps time for a total re think!!
