Thought Id get this new board going:
Took "The Toddler" (my Welsh D) to a hunter pace yesterday. He's done maybe 4 XC's over the past 3 years so not a lot (well my other boy is SO much better that he's usually the one to get taken!). His main problem has always been the water. He's only ever been into 2 proper water complexes and it took 30 mins to 1 hour for all 4 feet to be in!
Well, shocked me yesterday - he vaguelly swerved sideways but then went straight in!! This is a water that I spent maybe 45 mins at 2 years ago and he still never got into it. Was well impressed with him as this is a really big achievement for a horse who can be extremely stubborn and make life hell just for the fun of it! He also was going far more straight between fences (rather than very squiggly lines).
Do you think he's FINALLY beginning to grow up?! (he's 6 but has remained very green since a 3yo no matter how much experience Ive given him!). Although he wont admit it, I think he almost enjoyed himself
Whereas my other horse who's meant to be my "eventer" went to another Hunter Pace today and mid-course had an absolute fit at some golfers who were nearby! He was shaking all over and in a blind panic. Plus he HATED not being allowed to gallop - he's learnt that XC is go as fast as possible (Ive had to to try and make the time!) but the ground was very rucked up so I couldnt let him. He wasnt a happy boy, he feels his fun was ruined.....
Anybody else doing Kirriemuir and Brechin in a few weeks?
