Well I bottled out of my dressage debut... Think I need someone to give me a bit of a kick and a prod to get me in that zone. Really want to try it but am just being a wimp... Can manage to hare around a cross country course though. But then you dont need to look pretty to do that eh?? If I can do it anyone can! - I cried my eyes out DURING my first dressage test on S!, I argued with the girl reading my test half way through (I was convinced I knew the test better than the girl reading it!) and I saluted like a sergeant at the end of the test... but I won the class & have never looked back! - so give it a go, you might be surprised at your results

Shame i didn't live closer to you Gayle i would have dragged you along with me! Maybe what you need is for someone else to try it with Snoopy to make you jealous. Once you've tried it once you will wonder what all the fuss is about. If your riding club do it even just try an intro test, they're just walk and trot and really easy to remember!
Modified to say that i would love to affiliate Silver once we've got a bit more experience under our belt. We need to sort out saddle problems, rider injuries and crack canter and then there will be no stopping us!

Or hey if you get prodded enough you'll be the next big thing at Three Day Eventing what with your Cross Country prowless, show jumping excelence, turnout and trot up expertise and you'll be a dressage diva. And when the big winnings start rolling in remember that you have scottish showing to thank and we would like an all you can drink weekend regularly and something nice and shiny, like um a nice new bridle each!

My membership was renewed in November - so cash already parted with! Our first affiliated outing for this year will be to Rowallan at the end of this month.
We will be doing elementary and hopefully some unaffiliated mediums. The whole business of Open & Restricted is puting me off doing aff mediums as I really can't face the thought of doing open e's against all the posh people & horses if we happed to get 1 wee medium point!

Persuaded my friend to take Snoops into a dressage test at my RC. She's done dressage tons of times and although she looks like a pea on a hill at only just over 5ft, he goes fairly well for her.
The theory is that I will watch them and then work up the bottle to have a go myself.... Well thats the theory anyway...

great news, what to do is stand with the test and try and follow it while she is doing the test, then you will see its easy enough

I'm never sure what is involved in affiliating. When madam is behaving more at unaffil novice, maybe we'd consider it then. She's starting to be a bit more consistent, and gets mid 60's usually at prelim. the trot is more or less sussed, she just gets a tad carried away in canter. ;D

Cassielass - your pair can compete on a day ticket to see how they get on at affiliated prelim & I believe I'm right in thinking they can compete at prelim without them both being BD registered which makes it slightly cheaper for the first year.
You don't get points at prelim level so it wouldn't push them up the grades too quickly.
Could someone clarify for me whether you're allowed to compete at unaffilliated competitions once you've registered with BD - I don't have access to a rule book as I'm still not a member - too broke at the moment & no point until I'm riding again.

kate yes you can still do unaffiliated if a bd member just check comp rules to be sure that you are ok to do the class if you have won points.

Thanks for that Fred - I seem to remember the last time I was a BD member - when they were still part of the BHS affiliated horses weren't allowed to compete unaffiliated - mind you, they didn't see many native & hairy ponies doing stressage then either.
