different ones seem to work on different horses lol also depends if you're getting flies or midges and whereabouts you are! i've been using a borrowed "recipe' for flies and midge-away by fly away for nasty midges and the blood suckery beggars that like it round udders/sheath area. forgotten just now the stuff you get that's supposed to last a bit longer, some people say it's really good - is it barrier? there's just so much out there and different people like different ones, a case of finding one that works for you and your horse

I use Midge-Away by Fly-Away and Avon skin-so-soft spray and they seem to keep the majority of midgie/flies/etc away.

I use Barrier Superplus - been using it for the past 4 years and it is pretty good....smells nice too and you can use it on horse and rider. I use Avon SSS for the midges though.

The best one I've ever used is one that my mum makes with a concoction of things including citronella oil, cold tea, vinegar and other things - but the numpty I am I've lost the recipe Although I don't think you are allowed to use citronella now

Bedrockshetlands you are right, Citronella will be illegal as of the 26th (I think) of August, due to it not being a licensed product, due to EU regulations
Phaser fly spray is very good and comes from leovet I think, just dont smoke around it as it is flammable!

I use the Barrier as well it seems to work on mine.
Though i thought i would try the new NAF Off stuff this morning, coated Peri and he doesnt seem to be too bothered with flys. (You also get a funky pink fly veil as well with it ;D )

I'd echo Katie! Leovet Phaser Flyspray is fantastic stuff. Not the cheapest by any means (around £13 per 500ml bottle), but it keeps everything away...............flies, midges, clegs! It's the only thing that I've found to be effective. The only other snag, other than the fact that is is flammable, is the fact that it stinks! But they guarantee it lasts for up to 7 hours and it certainly seemed to. My gelding gets a really raw deal from the clegs during the summer and this is the first year, that he has had some peace! It's well worth the money in my opinion. I bought a 2.5l container of it (eBay!) and it cost me £40. I've got enough to do both my boys all next summer too now!

Another 'fan' of Power Phaser but only if you like the smell of burnt creosote........ Kills everything and even keeps husbands at bay....
