Another Alva fan. It was formulated by a guy who has a Welsh Cob stud, thats his stallion on the cover. At HOYS's there was an Alva stand and you could buy a video of this guy demonstrating all the products on his cobs

I complained that their mane, tail and feather conditioner was in such a small bottle and he brought a larger version out the following year - so he obviously listens!

i was on the phone to this woman from England last night. i was phoning about tweeds. She was telling me that all the producers in England have started using pig oil in water. You rinse your sponge in it then wipe over. She used it at HOYS this year on hers and said she'd never go back- apparently you get it at local feed stores? Gonna give it a try ;D

Gonna give it a try ;D It's not really a new way of doing it, I think it's just that people have now found out! Apparently you have to be careful you don't use too much as it can make your pony look greasy, so probably best to try it well before a show to make sure you get it right! Possibly best for indoor winter shows too - I would be a bit wary about using an oil-based product during hot weather (if we get any!)

yeh well thats what i was thinking. I watched the hacks at Hoys and there was one in particular that looked like someone had just sprayed baby oil all over it- you could see the bits the groom missed!!

Another linseed feeder here! It really has done wonders for Flash's coat, he's beautiful and shiny, though i think a nylon rug lining helps heaps too.
Theres definately a them developing here - oil-based feeds and Alva seems to be the way to go!

Has anyone ever tried the flyaway products show shine in a spray can, it sits on them like varnish and is excellent, especially for dark summer days where you need a bit of sparkle, I suppose it would be good for indoors as well. It works best on darker coats, but I havent seen it on a lighter coat so could not comment.

Pig oil to be used sparingly IMHO, unless you want a 'wet shine' effect. I must learn how to scan things in and scan the pics of Val at HOYS 2 years ago when he won - I swear on my life all I did was put a bit of baby oil in the water and raven oil on his legs (to black out some little white bits), then LOTS of brushing on the day, pig oil applied judiciously on legs and baby oil and makeup on face. But no oil on his body on the day - I really don't like the 'wet shine' look

I dont use anything really other than putting baby oil in the water I rinse him in, as there is only so much of a shine you can get with a dun Just remember not to do that when he's doing ridden classes!!!!

Cause it makes them a bit slippery Kermie, no idea what raven oil is, but it blacks them out - so perfect for that 'blacker than black' look. Have never used it on anything other than legs though....
