Taken from the British Show Horse Assosiation website, here are the recommendations for turnout for Hacks, Cobs and Riding Horses.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DRESS FOR RIDDEN HACKS,
COBS AND RIDING HORSES
COUNTY SHOWS
1. Bowler hat for men, bowler or hunting cap for women.
2. Tweed coat for men. Tweed coat or plain black or blue for women.
3. Plain fawn or buff coloured breeches - not white.
4. Plain black or brown boots.
5. Garter straps. Points must face outwards and buckle should be against and
between buttons on breeches.
6. Spurs should be worn by exhibitors and must be high on the heel of the boot and
horizontal.
7. Any form of leather or string gloves.
8. Plain malacca or leather cane, not to exceed 32”. No schooling or cutting whips.
9. Collar and ordinary tie. Tie must be pinned down.
10. Ordinary shirt.
11. No earrings to be worn
OTHERS
Best Trained Show Horse Classes:- Dress as for final judging at the Royal International
Horse Show or the Horse of the Year Show. Plain malacca or leather cane, not to
exceed 32”. No schooling or cutting whips.
In Hand Classes:- Suitable clothing which should include a hat, jacket,
shirt and tie. Plain malacca or leather cane, not to exceed 32”. No
schooling or cutting whips.

LONDON AND INTERNATIONAL SHOWS
1. In the morning as for County Shows.
2. In the evening:-
Cobs - Hunting Dress with hunting whips.
Ladies wear black or blue hunting coats with
bowler hat or hunting cap. Fawn breeches and
black boots and garter straps. Some ladies
now wear top hats in the evening
Gentlemen wear scarlet or black hunt coat,
either ordinary pattern or cut away. White
breeches must be worn with scarlet coat and
boots with tops and white garter straps. White
breeches with black patent top boots may be
worn with black coats or coloured breeches
and plain black boots. Top hat to be worn.
Riding Horses - Dress as for Cobs/Hacks.
Hacks - Ladies wear cap, bowler or top hat with
white or cream stock. Breeches, black boots and black
or navy coat.
Gentlemen wear black morning coat with
close fitting black riding trousers with
ordinary collar and tie or cravat.
Side Saddle, - County Shows- Ordinary habit, black or blue with
Hacks Cobs and collar and tie and bowler hat and veil or approved riding hat.
Riding Horses Royal Shows - As for County Shows or habit
with hunting tie, top hat and veil may be worn.
London Shows - As for County Shows in the
morning. Habit with hunting tie, top hat and veil for the evening.

8. Numnahs if worn should be as small as possible.

2. Tails pulled and cut short in length.
3. Strong double bridle or pelham.
(Snaffle bridles may be worn in Novice Classes)

5. Browbands must be plain.
6. Ordinary shoes of light steel or aluminium plate.
