So it's been quite a while since I posted on the forum (or even visited!) but feel this is the best place to get the answer I am looking for. Since the last time I posted another equine member has joined the family of myself, my partned Jonny and my mare Pepper. Bertie joined us back in September and after 5 years of being around horses Jonny finally decided it was time to get his own. We chose Bertie (Murthwaite Lenny), a traditional 14.2hh gelding Fell x Cob with lovely Murthwaite breeding. Bertie did well at his first outing at the Puddledub Inhand and Youngstock show as a 4 year old back in October snatching first place in the Coloured 4yo and up class and then going on to take reserve champ in the coloured section! Bertie's next planned show is Kirriemuir Agricultural Show and who knows after that due to lack of transport. Jonny wants to enter Bertie into the In-hand HOYS coloured qualifier at the RHS 2015 BUT... 1. Inhand Bridle - where can I find a nice inhand bridle for a traditional with a thick noseband? 2. Brown or Black on a piebald? Of course brown is more traditional especially for a show like the RHS but how would this look? Thanks for reading my absolute bible of a post and looking forward to hearing your answers. I have certainly missed the forum! The first day he arrived...

There are no in hand classes at HOYS apart from the Cuddy Supreme in hand Championship of which there are only certain shows which have qualifiers throughout the year, the standard is exceptionally high and one of the most hotly contested qualifiers for HOYS. It's not a qualifier you can simply enter. You have to win your class and section championship which puts you into the Cuddy qualifier where all section champions are up against each other to be champion Cuddy and win the HOYS ticket. Only certain shows are qualifiers, RHS being one of them.
As far as your leatherwork goes, Havana is the traditional colour and I generally tend to get my in hand bridles from Fylde. They are superb quality and the service is fantastic.

Thanks for your reply,
I am still trying to get my head around qualifiers for what show and which classes. It's all a little confusing haha. Just looked at 2014 RHS schedule for coloured section and realised I am mixing up HOYS qualifiers and CHAPS qualifier for their championship show.
I suppose it would be nice to take him to the highland. To be honest I don't have much hope for him taking anything home although my partner says otherwise! (Of course)
I did have Fylde in mind for a bridle so will either go with them or custom.
Thanks!
