Today is a very sad day as my Grandaughter who is 12 said goodbye to her first pony - Lady taught her everything, she was a quirky little mare but a brilliant hack. She was around 36 years old and had been a gem for Leah.
My daughter discussed this day with Leah a few weeks ago as we had concerns over Lady dropping weight and no matter how much she ate she wasn't improving - it took Leah 3 days to mull it over and then she came to the conclusion it was best for Lady. I know this is a hard lesson when you are 12 but I am so proud that Leah understood the importance and significance of doing what was best for her much loved pony, she is understandably devastated but she says her heart tells her it was for the best. She has her other pony to keep her busy and I know that in the future if she chooses to keep horses in her life, or any other animals their long term future is safe in her hands - a terribly sad but also uplifting day for me.

What a brave an mature little girl, and very sensible of your daughter to discuss it with her like a 'grown up' - will do her and any future animals she has so much good in the long term 36 is some age, what a super pony

What a good girl.
A very hard life lesson, and one we all have to several times in our lives but great that has had that time to think it over and cone to her own sensible conclusion even though it will be with a heavy heart.

That is sad news but it sound like it has been well handled.
It's a tough decision for anyone to make let alone when you are 12 what a sensible girl to realise it's for the good of the pony.

Echo the others, what a brave decision for a young girl and handled very well by her mum. There are plenty of adults out there who could do with understanding that it is about putting the animal first.
