mike and i were lucky enough to come across two fantastic exracers last year. As my husband already has a heard they were never supposed to stay longterm just be retrained and move onto new lives. Sound simple enough especially when i include that they were riding in soft fluid outlines calmly and in a self assured manner becoming of a horse thats been years in the game within weeks. Add another couple of weeks and they were wining indoors and on grass as riding horses and hacks, not ex racers and for good measure throw in hacking in heavy traffic on the buckle end of the rein and stopping to voice commands when working in a 30 acre field! We thought we were blessed to have found them.
Good job as the way things are going they will be doing veterans with us! Crazy people who kick like pony club and stop by removing back molars, the woman who had a panic attack at walk and bailed out, the lady frightened by the love they appeared to require, the people who change their mind pre vetting after several trials because her friend told her all about exracers, the man who pulled out after numerous trials before sale because his wife once fell of an ex racer! We have had them all not to mention the phone enquiries first questions being : do they need fed? Will they live out? How high can they jump? Is 158cm a 14.2 pony? Can we pay on a payment plan and take them to timbucktu meantime(i embelished that one) ?
I am at my wits end and tired of wasted days and nights with nutters, if you have a hang up about ex racers dont go see one! Anyone who knows us knows the exracers we have are great ambassadors for ror although we tend to show in riding horse and hack classes as judging is more consistant. Anyone got any advice/ ideas ? Im already at the point where im pehaps not the most inviting seller on the phone but a few still slip past my nutter radar, made worse by the fact we now love the boys dearly and this is traumatic enough. Just dont fancy another winter with 9 so common sense must prevail.
