My name is Sheila and I have started showing my 2yr old this year but I'm having problems finding classes to do with him as he is an American Bashkir Curly. I am based in the Northeast of Scotland so there are very few foreign breeds classes up here. Would appreciate some advice. Trying to keep him as natural as possible so mane too long to plaid for hunter classes.

Hi Sheila, Welcome to the forum! I've got a Foreign breed too - a PRE - so totally sympathise for not having that many shows to do. Echt is the only agri show I know of who do a class ("Any other recognised breed"), apart from that it's RC shows you need to look at. There's still a few shows coming up this year though - Upper Donside (20th August), Waulkmill and Ladyleys (3rd September) all do Foreign breeds, as does Ythan but you've missed it for this year. Apart from that, some shows do a generic youngstock class (ie a mixed class for all breeds/types) that you could enter while yours is still a baby - I did one at Winter Woollies a few years back, I'm sure other shows do them too so just keep checking out the schedules. They're normally for 1-3 yr olds. Would love to see photos of your horse - I've never seen an American Bashkir Curly. Maybe I'll meet you at some of the Foreign breeds classes!
