Friend is doing her first side saddle class at Kelso Show next week. She has roped in a groom (muggins!) so wondered if anyone has any hints or tips?
Never groomed for SS before! And any tips I could pass on to her! Horse has done it before but not for a while but she is a fab unflappable type!

Not really sure don't think they will strip them in the ring if that's what your meaning! Well I hope not once I'm on I like to stay put. I just turn my horse out as usual but minus riding horse brow band. no real tips for your friend I'm just finding my way myself. Think the main thing is to keep still and look elegant. Hopefully they won't have us trotting about for ages like they did at highland that was sore on my stomach muscles lol. Ss are great classes competitors are really friendly and helpful We are going so will see you there!

She will! I felt a bit like that at the highland but once I saw the pictures I knew we did! What type of horse is it? They are usually plaited except if its an m&m then they go au natural. Just remember about your tack as they do look at the saddle and underneath to make sure it all fits and is clean etc. I use a double bridle with a plain brow band for my mare and just turn out as I would for any other show class.
It's a lot of fun but quite nerve wracking. I've not been to Kelso before but looking forward to it, side saddle is addictive!!!

Thats what I said! Have seen practise pics and think she looks great. The wellies and reflective jacket weren't the best look though!
She's an IDxWB, big black mare which makes life so much easier. Trying to sort a flat bridle for her at the moment. Owner normally does tiny plaits but know they need to be a bit chunkier to suit her type.
Kelso is a lovely show. I've beena few times with my mare but also love it for a wander about. Aunt and Uncle live next door so always seems a local show.

She will look very elegant on her horse! And we will all be in the class to give her moral support a cheer on my horse is a little bay mare, she is a warmblood in disguise as she looks like an anglo arab - we confuse judges alot! Looking forward to saturday just praying the temp drops as hate riding in the habit when it is hot!!!!!!!!
