I have been looking for a lightweight (cheap) mounting block/step. I spent ages last night trawling through forums to see if I could get inspiration. At present I have a very handy kitchen stool which has got to be a health and safety nightmare. It wobbles and I basically have to balance like a ballerina on it, which I most definitely am not . It is not a pretty sight Marlee/Leodhas you will agree ;D I really need something at least 50cm or preferably a bit higher that would be safe to use when I am away from home. The garden wall etc is great but can't take it with me. Ikea do a step which measures 48cm, that is the best I have found without spending a fortune. Got quoted £150 just for postage for one step today, without the price of the item Has anyone got any bright ideas ;D

My dad bought me a set of folding steps that were 2 steps high - unsure of height though - they were from b&q and were about £10. I have seen a 3 step one at a show in the same style.

I have a moulded plastic mounting block its about 450cm high ( guesstimate ) I have seen them on ebay - bought mine at the RHS. It looks flimsy but pony has stood on it several times and its survived. Was about £15. If I am not too busy at work today :-Xwill try and find a link for you

Agree with HNS - mine are the folding type you get at B&Q and dont take up much room in the horse box, which is a bonus If you are struggling to find some, I can have a look out and send some over with Dad next time he goes home ;D

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, I have sent my friend, who is on the Mainland today, to have a look in B&Q. Sadly no Ikea in Inverness and postage to Highlands and Islands is a license to print money Think will invest in one of them anyway next time I'm away. The grooming boxes are definitely too small Have any of you seen someone mount from a builders platform They come in different heights and look pretty stable. Aureesa thank you for the offer ;D ;D I'm sure your dad would be thrilled having to lug home a step for one vertically challenged horse owner

I used to take a crate with me, standard bottle sized thing but if I was riding side saddle it wasn't big enogh and to squeeze my big stable mounting block in. I found I could get on side saddle with my steps, they wobble now though as one of the stoppers has come off! Nothing major though
