Is there a certain among of mane from the poll down the neck (like a bridle path) that you are ment to cut/ clip or does it not matter? I have never shown an arab and I noticed at a few shows the arabs with the tops of the mane clipped. I dont want to do it and end up taking to much away.
Any advice?

Hi You dont have to cut a bridle path in an arabs mane, it is personnal preferance. Some people who dont like cutting them in put a very neat arab plat in for the same look. ( But only for a few inches not all the mane)
I have all of mine done, my stallion when I bought him had a huge bridle path and I am now growing some of it back in. My mares all get around 4 to 6 inches aprox cut out. I think it enhances their necks especially if they have very long manes.
Remember though that you are not allowed to remove ANY tactile hair from an arab if you are showing them.

As cameg says its down to personal preference - its very much a fashion I like it but i think it only suits some horses, so dont feel you have to. Not sure it would suit your boy to be honest, but see what you think No trimming of whiskers or inside the ears, but you can trim beards, feathers etc. Also you're not allowed hoof varnish (hoof oil ok as long as it doesnt dry hard) or make up - though you can apply highlighter to the face.

thank you so much for the advice I think I will try a plait and see what it looks like and then decide. He has been fully clipped so doesnt have any feathers but I couldnt get his nose done so he is all baldy apart from his nose and ears looks rather strange but hopefully by the time I take him to a show it will be less obviose.
Also how long should there tail be as his is extremely long. again I didnt want to go trimming away at it at make it too short for his breed.

If its lying on the ground, you could do a bit of judicious trimming, but it should really be au nauturale and definately NOT banged!

I think it should be fine then I trimmed it a bit when he first came to me but it looks natural just now plus he holds it realy high so if I took anymore off it would probs be too short when he was ridden. Thank-you soo much you have been a great help.

You shouldn't trim an Arabs tail ever. It will break off naturally, so leave it be.

even if its trailing the ground? he was standing on it I felt kinda bad leaving it. It has grown since then so you could never tell it has been trimmed. Thanks for all the advice. One more question lol he has a scar around his front hoof it is quite noticeable is there anything I can cover it with?

My lot all have their tails trail on the ground!! But when you get them to trot out and show off......the tail will end up over their back and it won't be a problem. Good luck with your showing, where are you planning to go to?
