Sorry mods if this is in the wrong place. I am wanting to take my coloured and do the HOYS ridden class this year HOWEVER....he is only going for his height measurement next week and is not yet registered CHAPS. I understand that you have to have your HOYS competition number to enter this but I need to know whether if I register CHAPS now can they give me this and then finalise it when the height certificate has been done so I can still enter?? Any help would be most appreciated with this as I need to act fast!! Thanks Its all so confusing!

I think you need to phone the CHAPS office. Do you mean you have your coloured passported with another society? I got Polly passported with CHAPS without any measuring, but you do need to have a measurement done to get your HOYS number.
I know when I did get Polly measured, it took less than a week for my passport to come back from CHAPS but I have heard tales of others not being so lucky.

He has a passport but its the one I got with him and its a cleveland bay society one?? No idea where that came from! And it has no height on it. I called CHAPS today and they were not very helpful at all. I am just going to send all the required forms, photos, fees etc to them so they can get things rolling and then forward the JMB certificate once I receive this after the measurement next week. Thats all I can do really and pray that the height certificate and the CHAPs registration is processed quick enough so I can still get my entries in! I wasnt sure if CHAPS could give me a HOYS competition number over the phone once they have all my stuff (inc height cert) so I can put it on my RHS entry form if its pushing close to the entry closing date. CHAPS couldnt tell me either. Just told me to read the forms fully and follow them!! Not helpful at all! Modified: Plus - unsure if I need to have passport overstamped or do I need to register? I think it needs overstamping as if I didnt get this done then he would end up with 2 passports which is illegal??? Thanks to anyone who is actually understanding what im going on about here as im not even sure I do anymore hehe ;D

I think you would be getting his passport overstamped, but I'm not 100% sure. You certainly wouldn't be getting another passport. Do you have a JMB page in your current passport? It may be better to get his measurement done and inserted in your passport directly (my CHAPS passport has a page which was completed when Polly was measured).....only that may mean the passport needing to be returned to Cleveland Bay society as well to log the measurement. Sounds like things will be tight for you timewise.

I know and the worst thing is I started organising this ages ago! One problem getting it done led to another problem ad so on.. Going to try my best though - it needs to be done anyway! Think I will call CHAPS again on the other number

You need to be a member, his passport needs to be overstamped and his height cert done before a HOYs number will be given
You have to send off his passport to the JMB for the height to be recorded (pretty sure of this) so you will have to wait for it to come back before overstamping with CHAPs

It is my understanding from a CHAPS point of view that neither you or the horse have to be registered with them to enter a qualifying class. I can't comment on the HOYS aspect but I entered my coloured yearling into a CHAPS class last year and neither of us were registered. If you are placed and decide to attend the qualifiers then you may overstamp and join between qualifying and entering the champs.
I do, however, stand to be corrected!

for HOYs qualifiers its completely different - you have to be a member, horse registered etc etc

Thanks everyone! I didnt join last year and did the in hand class, as it was a CHAPS qualifier I didnt have to be a member etc but as Nag says you have to be for HOYS - its never straight forward! Im getting there - just hope it all works out!!
