The problem with Silverstone is helicopter prices, normally shuttles depart from Oxford or Cranfield, but to get 4/5 people in one rotation costs around £2400 (jet ranger) larger aircraft attract larger handling fees (normally around £600 per person). I think it was 2008 that the silverstone heliport open/closed around 20 times due heavy rain, so in trying to mitigate against delayed flights opted to get as far as an airport with an Instrument landing System (Silverstone is all visual approaches - hence weather issues)
To put a 19 seat helicopter in last year was about 5000 in handling fees (per take off and landing). This was because of a new contract winner.
The price of the ticket covers flight south, all ground handling, dedicated bus shuttle and a race ticket. The option is there for flight only option allowing people to get helicopter shuttles if required. Since nothing is easy, Cranfield don't have the correct catagory of fire cover for the aircraft (although this can be arranged for a cost) we are putting in, so in keeping prices down we are putting the Aircraft down to an airport 35 miles from the track.

Wooooo Hoooooooo
Last week, my company finally got approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to be a Registered Training Facility at Aberdeen Airport.
This means my company is the only company at Aberdeen with approval from the CAA, The Airport operator and Air Traffic to operate training at the weekends......
So if anybody wants to get a pilots licence...... feel free to contact me!
