........... I have a 4yr old who has had a few problems in 2010. He got side bone on both front feet, he developed a splint whilest in on box rest for the side bone and cracked his face on the rafters in the stable so now has a noticable lump on the front of his face. so..........would you take him showing for the experience of only getting him into the ring Not taking about any great level, only really thinking of taking him to Grand Slam for an outing to see Ingliston and then some local shows and agri shows in the summer to give him some experience of different situations as I really want to aim him at dressage. Thoughts please.

I would as showing is one of the best ways in which to introduce a young horse to the big wide world. If you aren't going to be offended by being placed down the line or having his added extras commented on then yes, by all means take him out to learn.

Absolutely. As long as you dont mind possibly being placed down the line because of his problems, i see no reason why not

The show ring is a great stepping stone for youngsters, despite what there discipline will be. ;D

Echo everyone else! I take my youngster out for in-hand classes on local shows, purely for experience & to let him see the big wide world. It'll be a lot easier to do your 1st dressage comp if he's already used to the show atmosphere!

of course. its a fab education and at the end of the day, who cares what anyone might think of your horse?! i am more pleased at how my horse goes than what the judge thought of it.

Thanks everyone. ;D Think his first show may be Grand Slam for a couple of in hand classes first. At last I may see some of you there
