I'm considering a 2001 model 3.2 SWB diesel to replace my crappy 55 plate xtrail which has given up the ghost and will cost around £1k to fix. However, apparently the Shoguns also have problems with the dual mass flywheel (same thing that's gone in my xtrail) so I don't want to replace one problem car with another! Looking for any information good or bad on these cars especially when they are being used for towing as I do tow quite a lot during the spring/summer and need something that can take the strain of regular towing which the xtrail seems to have struggled with. Any infor would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys - it does seem to be a pretty reliable car but then I though that buying a 55 plate xtrail would mean I got a few years without any major issues but it's been one thing after the other.
How do you find them for fuel consumption?

No real problems whilst I have had mine.

I have a Shogun 2005 3.2 litre SWB. Have now had it 2 and a half years and love it. Tows 2 big highlands without any problem. Quite reasonable on normal running (on good run can get 35 mpg) for size of engine and a managable size about town. ;D Had a Pajero import for 5 years before that and really liked that which is why I went for another mitubuishi Have towed with a friends disco and much prefer the Shogun. Has always got us out of muddy fields at shows where others got stuck! Only downside- swb does not have a lot of boot space for shows!

I also have a shogun - Mandy! Shes a bit old now 98 plate I think. Shes just the 2.8 version, but I love her, she is brilliant at towing, well comfy and dead reliable and I have had no problems with her in the 4 years I have owned her ;D

Oh thanks for that post Currie - that's the exact same spec as the one I'm looking at.
Based on what you guys paid for yours what would you say is a reasonable price for a 2001 Shogun 3.2 SWB with just under 90k miles on it?

we have always had shoguns, and love them. We used to tow every weekend and sometimes through the week too going to shows with an old ifor williams and two big horses in it and never had any problems, we did try out a toyota landcruiser 3ltr for a couple of years but mum hated it and went back to the shogun this year which she got from Arnold Clark a 54 plate for £6500. The only thing is that the boot space isnt that great for all your horsey gear in the SWB.

Thanks - I'd be getting the 2001 SWB model for around £3.5k with new tyres and years mot which seems reasonable compared to some of the prices I've seen for similar models on autotrader.

thanks EE ;D
The SWBs do not hold their value as much because they are 3 door
I had a SWB for around 6 months and hated it!
Not enough boot space compared to a LWB
