Alphamare chummed me along yesterday/last night as I took wee Tottie along to the Pony Loose Jumping at Ingliston.
This is for 3yos that were not to esceed 153cm. They were jumped in 3 height sections with the distances being lengthened a bit for each section of 133cm, 143cm and 153cm as were the maximum heights they were asked to jump.
Tottie has been jumping really well in practice at home and making nothing of 1.20m, and as the maximum she was to be asked for last night was 1.05m we knew she had the ability. However as she has never been anywhere (and not even in the lorry) since she was 3 or 4 weeks old and went through for surgery at the Dick Vet, we really did not know how she would react to her little adventure.
As she will be turned back out again today, I didn't want to clip her although she is quite hairy, and also decided against trimming, but probably should have done her ears and chin, but she has a mane and tail wash etc yesterday morning and went to load at about 1'ish. What a wee star, about 10 minutes and AM moving her front feet up the ramp and she was in ;D She travelled well and got her plaited etc. The pony BSJA was running on a bit late so the Loose Jumping didn't actually start 'til well after 8pm I think. Tottie had come out of the lorry with her eyes bright and really interested in everything and with the most amazing 'forward' attitude. Rather than backing off anything new, she put her head into her bridle and just walked on - and boy did she walk!!! She walked fast and long and didn't want to stop!!!
The second pony in was a lovely grey Rotherwood pony that belongs to End House Stud in Lancashire and they are going to keep it as a stallion. What a fabulous looking and moving pony and boy could it jump We were sixth to go and Tottie just went brilliantly - a little bit fast and therefore a little flat at one point because the guys with lunge whips were chasing her a bit, but the next (and final) time ahe came down the line they left alone completely and jumped fantastically.
She probably jumps a bit too quick for the show jumpers as she is quick in take off, quick through the air and quick away from the fence, just what you are looking for in an event pony but the show jumpers prefer to see more suspension in the air.
After what seemed like a very long evening we were lucky to called forward as one of the final six for prize giving and she was pulled 5th behind a lovely grey from Balcormo that I thought had jumped really nicely and would make a great 153cm WHP and below a fabulous looking 153cm roan pony that would not look out of place as a SHP (we were only 4 marks out of 190 behind that one).
What surprised us all was that the lovely Rotherwood pony was only 2nd behind a hideous thing that to be honest I would not have given house room on conformation (not bad lower limbs though) and apart from having very good hind leg action over the fence the first time down the lane I didn't think had jumped particularly well.
Anyway, apologies for looooooooooooonnnnnnnnnngggggggggg post, but still buzzing with pride over my little girl who did everything I asked for and more.
There was a photographer there but not sure how we get photographs from her. Sadly my camera could not cope with the lack of light and although I put the video camera on charge I never thought to put in a new disc and the one in it was full!!
We didn't leave Ingliston 'til nearly midnight and got back after 1am with a very tired pony. Thank you AM for your company and help, and to Kermie for coming over to watch and staying to the bitter end.
Ingliston was, as ever looking fantastic and the lodges are all amazing now they are finished and every single one was booked for the weekend too, and the stables all looked well filled too. We really are so lucky to have this venue up here
