Thank goodness for that - after watching him slide down the hilly field the other day when I went to fetch him I was beginning to panic! My RI competes there a lot and thinks the ground will be fine as she generally finds it a bit hard so hopefully it will have held up ok with all this rain!

Well today was not good for us!
Rain overnight (and all week) meant the ground was a wee bit slippy for us (C's barefoot)
Had a couple of small slips in the dressage, a few more and some stops in the SJ and them silly me didnt realised that when he refused the second part of the double (because he's slipped) I had to jump both parts of it - only jumped the second part and was eliminated!
Took him back into warm up and popped the jumps again but he was sliding all over the place and you could feel he wasn't sure about it so I just retired from the XC - wasn't worth the risk - some of the horses with studs were slipping so what chance did we have!
Very disapponted as I was looking forward to it but not worth the injury risk - shame we didn't get the weather for it!

Thats a shame Casper - he has a nice wee jump in him unlike C who flung himself over with gusto Comet, it is safe to say, had an absolute ball today and I need to invest in some brakes. It is never a good sign when you jockey shrieks "I don't think I have any braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakes..." after the first warm up jump ;D ;D Anyway, he went into the SJ and was a bit of a plank and got himself eliminated, then on the the XC and he went off like a rocket and cleared everything easily but had a couple of stops at straw bales so no placing for us. Wasn't impressed at tack steward who said "Oh I better check your girth cos I know what these fat Highlands are like" Comet came back from the XC without a drop of sweat on him or puffing - unlike a lot of the TB types Had such a good time though and hope EDRC run it again!!

Sounds like your boy did very well! Casp seemed to have fun but just wasn't as forward as I'm used to and I was too scared to push him too much incase he slid and hurt himself - would have loved a bash at the XC - maybe next year!!
