I was supposed to be doing my first XC this weekend but decided that Dundee was a bit far (I'm thinking in terms of towing home when I'm knackered and the adrenaline rush has faded)
I believe there is supposed to be a good course in Edinburgh that you can hire out for £15 but I cant' remember the name if it!
Does anyone know of anywhere that's good for first XC outing - doesn't need to be a competition - happy to go and have a play somewhere too!

Casper, google edinburgh equestrian (there may be a hyphen in between) as I think that's the one you're referring to. Haven't been but heard very good reports, some nice and easy inviting fences for those starting out.

The one at Douglas is supposed to be nice and years ago I did the Kirkintiloch & Campsie one with Eiger as it had a 1'6" course and that suited my pensioner and scared me down to the ground

Edinburgh Equestrian is fab, it's right at the end of the City By-pass. You take the cut off for Musselburgh and turn left at the mini roundabout. The web site will give you more details. I have been loads of times and always push myself a little bit harder each time. They have miles of tracks if you just want to hack, jumps from tiny baby ones (logs on the ground) to 1 metre. Water complex, coffins, banks, steps, the lot. You can even wade from one side of the river to the other. Liz the lady who runs it is very nice. Don't take friends on foot though, you really need to be on horseback as its so huge.
