Any info/help from any b*tch owners as I am getting quite concerned for our Dusty (10 yr old Golden Retriever) She went into season 14 days ago and the first 4 days was her usual pale watery blood. Her normal seasons are like this and they only last for a couple of weeks. Now it is worrying me as for the last 10 days it has varied from very bright red or very dark and a heck of a lot. If she walks about it is spotting on the floor like the size of £2 pound coins and dripping all the time over her hocks. I am having to wash her bum daily as the poor lass cannot keep up with it I have phoned my vet twice and he is not too worried even though this is very abnormal for her and as she is bright in herself he thinks she will be fine. I have booked an appointment for her to be seen tomorrow evening but I am still worried. I may just be panicking but due to health reasons she is the first girl I have owned that has not been spayed so I am clueless and in 10 years she has always been very light. Could it be her age? any advice much appreciated

agree that the vet is the best person to see her especialy in a 10yr old dogs thats season has changed dramatically. If she was a young dog I would agree with the vet not to worry but not in an older one, hope she is ok.

Thats everyone, now need more help please send positive vibes today. Dusty was rushed to vets yesterday evening half an hour before he appointment as she was starting to get close to a hemorrhage She was kept in last night on a drip and is much brighter this morning with reduced blood loss. We have all decided that as she requires an exploratory op this morning she will be spayed at the same time. The only terrifying worry is that she is 10 from an anesthetic point of view She is the right weight and quite fit apart from Thyroid problems which are controlled with meds. We are all still very worried and as she is mums dog now it is awful considering she is battling with her health.

Hope your vet was suitably apologetic considering they had twice said it was nothing - I wish more vets could tell the difference between 'fussy' owners and those who really know their pets/animals and should be listened to as soon as they show concern. Unfortunately there are too many namby pamby owners who cry wolf and he vets get a bit 'switched off' at times. (Same goes for doctors - but hey, thats another story!) Normally I would agree with you Puddledub as I have seen this attitude off vets especially with horse. But I have a very good vet who knows me as a owner plus although he was saying wait and see I can see his point as she is not a young dog and at the time was happy in herself. So I do not blame my vet as he in my opinion and his practice are one of the best around here.

Just a quick update, Dusty was spayed this morning and is quite bright in herself. She is staying at the practice tonight due to her age and health issues as a precaution. The option to operate was a good one as it was found that she had a very reactive womb and a lot of thickening at the cervix. The only worry now is that she is still bleeding if this does not settle down then it could be a problem at the top of the girl thingy. Anyone ever heard of this in dogs? So it is so far so good. Will keep you all updated and please keep sending those positive vibes

Thanks all and the Vit K seems to have worked a treat Puddledub. She is presently trying to bounce around and is not too pleased when I stop her from climbing on the sofa or jumping in back of landrover . The vet saw her on Monday and is amazed at her progress, all bleeding has stopped touch wood just a very minimal watery discharge. So far so good
