Well if anyone has any advice on how to settle a stressy traveller i would greatly appreciate them. Never had a problem with Peri when we had the lorry, loaded fine, never sweated etc. But with the trailer hes just got progressivley worse, he cant seem to balance himself properley. Have moved him into the left side which has helped, put in a bumper on the side he leans on and also squished some shavings bales on the other side so he can put his feet against them, but it just doesnt seem to be working. Have tried giving him calmers but i think he just gets so worked up they just dont kick in. Am at the end of my tether as i dont know what to do next, apart from getting a lorry again but thats out of the question.

Meant to ask, does anyone travel without a partition in? How do they find it, as this was my next step.

have you tried taking him with a buddy...one of your shetties Id go for the middle partition out approach next. Maybe he will be able to balance himself better at an angle Does your trailer have windows at the front?

Zoe: - I would suggest as Peri previously travelled fine then the problem is with your trailer, this reminds me of a friend who had the same problem. She towed her IW505 with a pick up same as yours. Her horse was getting herself in a right state every outing & started to stop loading. She finally was given advise to weight down the rear of the pick up & amazingly the the horse travels & loads fine now!
it had something to do with the weight distribution & the trailer had to much tilt on it or something like that... not fully sure but I know the problem resolved when they put bricks in the back of the pick up.

This has made interesting reading ;D Our Arab is a serial non-loader We think his problem is the ramp - we have a lorry and in the past he has always travelled in a trailer (and NO we are not changing!). He travels brilliantly when we get him in - but this can take some time And funnily he loads ok at home - straight in recently - but not away from home. His main problem is the steepness of the ramp, not that our lorry has a v steep ramp but obviously steeper than a trailer. And he is better at home as he feels more secure here. Now we have tried it all. Pressure halter DOES work eventually. Lunge lines or any force does not, inc tapping with a stick. A broom was used once as a last resort after 2.5 hrs but this is not a method i like. Food has no effect. We are a bit at our wits end - though it only takes us 30mins or so now on the way home, but after a long day it would be nice to get him in quickly, or if its raining it'd be better to stand him in the lorry between classes. Any new ideas Apart from a bullet (though i have been tempted...)

Meant to ask, does anyone travel without a partition in? How do they find it, as this was my next step. Zoe i had serious travelling problems with madam due to her not being able to stand upright when travelling, both in a lorry and a trailer. I know how you feel it is very scarey , she never actually went down, but could have . I eventually tried her in a trailer without a partition, but with a full length breast bar and also cross tied...well she hasnt looked back, travells like a dream now. I think the gut reaction is to wedge them in so as they cant fall over, it took me a while to get my head round it, but some horses just need MORE room so that they can balance. Madam also now travells well in a lorry, she just has lots of room. Good luck im sure it can be sorted deano.

Zoe - Fred wouldn't travel in a trailer he kicked the side out of it - we repaired it and removed the partition and double tied him and he was semi ok - but not 100 % so went back to a lorry but worth a try but you will need a full lenght breast bar - the blacksmith made one for us and one for the back

I have an Ifor trailer and all horses travel well when being towed with any Landrover.
BUT when we tow the same horses with the Mitsubishi warrior they dont travel well at all, as the WARRIOR had very hard leaf springs and gives the horses a bad ride.
