so what exactly is off topic? please explain. as i think it is very confusing as to what you are allowed to write and what your not? i dont think gillian over reacted at all. everything she said is true. Not really going to get involved in this.......... however it seemed to take several pages of posts before a thread was locked when the initial person asked a very specific and simple question who then got a barrage of 'opinions' not even relating to her original question and even when she reiterated her initial question the thread still went off in that tangent and some comments made were really not relevant nor asked for. Seems to me this post was clearly off topic yet members were free to keep going off topic until some of us said something Just popping on, didn't mean to open a whole can of worms!! Just to answer your point OM! I think I know the thread you are refering too. It wasn't so much as going 'off topic', as alot of the opinions where still relevant to the actual thread, however they weren't asked for, but so much like many opinions Still relevant though!

I dont see the problem or the offence. I ahve gotten personal with a few threads but they have more often than not been about the subject and on my own threads TBH. Nikki xxx

My understanding of "forums" are that they are places for people to air their views & opinions, learn from others experiences & have some freedom of speech. Although i do get the intention of the original post, IMHO, it's a bit risky to start telling members what they can & can't say - especially when on occassions it does seem that what it okay for some, isn't okay for others. I've opened threads on numerous occassions to find lots of random chat, private jokes etc going on between members who obviously know each other & TBH it doesn't bother me. I'd rather continue to scrawl through & be able to pull out the info that's important to me, than miss out on experiences of others because they are too scared to post at risk of getting sent to stand in the corner! And there are many people on here who may be guilty of chitchat who have lots & lots to offer!
Sometimes rules can be taken too far - i don't think it's good for the forum if folk are admitting they are being put off posting, especially new members, who let's face it have just as much to contribute as those who have been here for a long time. If no-one is swearing/being affensive etc, does it really matter if a bit of banter goes on now & then?
